$14.38 $17.97

A masterpiece of Crete's 3,500-year artisan tradition!

This EVOO has not been certified organic, however we do not use any chemicals or pesticides on our crop.

Acropolis Organics Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a light fruity taste with grassy notes and a hint of peppery finish, which is an indicator of the antioxidants present in the oil.

Each bottle states the extensive chemical analysis done on the oil as well as the Protected Designation of Origin symbol, which means that each bottle can be traced back to where it came from. As well, you will notice a fresh grassy fragrance and finished with peppery notes, which is another indication of an authentic EVOO.

Acropolis Organics goes to great lengths to preserve the mono-cultivar value of our oil. Our olive oil is from one estate, one mill, and from one variety of olives, the “Koroneiki” variety also known as the king of olives.

This olive oil is never blended with other oils or with chlorophyll to artificially enhance its colour or beta-carotene to mask the flavour of the blended oils. This singular approach ensures that our customers are getting pure, genuine, fresh olive oil from a reliable source and from a limited harvest.

The Acropolis Organics mill is located on their estate and operated by them. Once the olives are picked they are brought to the mill right away.

BENEFITS OF EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
Olive oil is the foundation of the Mediterranean diet. It can be used as a replacement for butter, margarine, and other monounsaturated fats. Olive oil provides tremendous support to the cardiovascular and immune systems.* It contains high levels of phytonutrients, polyphenols, and other nutrients like lignans and squalene.

A diet rich in extra virgin olive oil has been shown to support healthy weight loss efforts, healthy metabolism, and healthy blood sugar levels.* It has also been shown to provide support to the bones.*

ACROPOLIS STANDARDS
Acropolis Organics practices the strictest standards of production. A new ecological farming system, (a.k.a., old school), means they do not use pesticides, chemicals or practice industrial farming.

They never blend with other oils or varieties or use chlorophyll, so the final product is 100% pure and natural. The salty Mediterranean air flowing through their sun-kissed fields adds a unique peppery finish. The smooth fruity taste will transform your daily cooking into a celebration.

  • Traceable: The red PDO seal ensures authenticity and quality control from the European Union. Each bottle has its own lot number, meaning, it's not mass produced.
  • Single Estate: The Acropolis family olive orchard is kissed by the Mediterranean salt air, oil, and sun, creating the perfect conditions to create an olive oil that bursts with flavor.
  • Single Mill: They run every stage of the production - from the harvesting to the pressing. They press the olives only hours after picking them to maximize the health benefits and taste.  Each bottle is packaged with great care: The family's honor depends on it.
  • Single Variety: Experts favor Koroneiki olives and hail them the "king" of the variety for making olive oil.
  • Extra Virgin: Only the first raw pressed. The juice of Acropolis olives is purely and simply divine.
  • PDO: Protected Designation of Origin from the European Union also indicates a limited harvest.
  • Legendary! In Chania, Crete, Greece, home to the Acropolis orchard, sits the OLDEST olive tree in the world. Branches from this tree are made into wreaths to crown Olympic champions.
  • Acidity: Acropolis Extra Virgin Olive Oil has 50% LESS acidity than industry standard.
  • Family Owned and Operated: The Tsiriotakis family has owned and operated this business for generations.

WHAT DOES EXTRA-VIRGIN MEAN?
Extra-virgin olive oil refers to cold extraction olive oil obtained directly from olives and solely by mechanical means.

The different names for olive oil indicate the degree of processing the oil has undergone as well as the quality of the oil. Extra-virgin olive oil is the highest grade available, followed by virgin olive oil. The word "virgin" indicates that the olives have been pressed to extract the oil; no heat or chemicals have been used during the extraction process, and the oil is pure and unrefined. Extra-virgin olive oils contain the highest levels of polyphenols; antioxidants that have been linked with better health.

COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT QUALITIES OF OLIVE OIL
Extra-virgin olive oil comes from virgin oil production only, has less than 0.8% acidity and an exceptional peppery finish. It accounts for less than 10% of oil in many producing countries; the percentage is far higher in the Mediterranean countries like Greece.

Virgin olive oil comes from virgin oil production only, has less than 1.5% acidity and is judged to have a good taste.

Oils labeled as pure olive oil or olive oil are usually a blend of refined and virgin production oil. They commonly lack a strong flavour.

COOKING WITH OLIVE OIL
Cooking FOOD with oil, including 100% EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL, is essential. Without it, you are MISSING all the FLAVOURS it brings out in your food.

Just DO NOT heat the oil over its smoke point. Smoke point refers to the temperature at which a cooking fat or oil begins to break down.

When heated, olive oil is the most stable fat, which means it stands up well to MEDIUM LOW temperatures. Its high smoke point (410ºF or 210ºC) is well above the ideal temperature for food (356ºF or 180ºC). The digestibility of olive oil is not affected when it is heated, even when it is reused several times.

Acropolis Organics suggests sautéing vegetables with olive oil, frying your eggs on low heat, sautéing garlic and onions, and any other masterpieces. Using Acropolis olive oil for light cooking brings out the aromas of the oil and enhances the flavour of the food. It makes your simple cooking a thousand times better.

Ingredients: Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Cold-Pressed)
Container Size: 500 ml

Serving Size: 1 tbsp.

Country of Origin: Greece; Koroneiki variety (The King of Olives)

Storage Instructions: Make sure you keep your oil in a dark glass bottle away from the sun and any source of heat, such as your stove. You can also store it in a tin can, but make sure that the can is filled to the top with the olive oil. There shouldn’t be any empty space left in the can, as the air within will lead to the deterioration of the oil. Instead, once opened, store the olive oil from the tin in dark glass bottles to ensure longevity and freshness. Olive oil does not need to be refrigerated. If refrigerated, it will become thick and cloudy.

Shelf Life: A lot number is imprinted on every bottle of imported olive oil and it traces the harvest date of the oil. This number corresponds to the oil’s expiration date. Olive oil is nature’s preservative, and it only starts to deteriorate if exposed to direct sunlight and heat. Typically, olive oil has a shelf life of 2 years from the time of harvest.

Note: This EVOO has not been certified organic, however we do not use any chemicals or pesticides on our crop.
